Derek Levasseur is a father, author, tradesman, and small-business owner who has spent his life fighting for Maine families. His journey has been shaped by resilience — overcoming personal adversity, confronting failures within the child welfare system, and standing up for people who feel unheard or mistreated. Those experiences drive his mission to bring honesty, accountability, and real leadership back to Augusta.
 

As the author of Derecho: Scars on the Soul, Derek shares his fight against false accusations and a state system that too often harms the very families it’s meant to protect. His writing reflects the same values he brings to public service: truth, transparency, and a belief that government should serve people — not work against them.
 

Derek’s work in the trades and in managing small Maine businesses has given him a ground-level view of the challenges facing working families. For him, rising costs, housing shortages, childcare barriers, and economic uncertainty aren’t political talking points — they’re the struggles he sees in his community every day.

His turning point came when he saw firsthand the failures inside Maine DHHS. After battling for his son and watching countless other families endure similar injustice, Derek stepped forward to demand oversight, transparency, and reform. He believes protecting children and families must be the top priority of state government.
 

Derek is running as an Independent because accountability should never belong to one party. Maine deserves leadership that answers to its people — not to political machines or special interests.

His vision is clear:
